Hudson County Improvement Authority, Hudson County Will Postpone Annual Earth Day Celebration Amid COVID-19 Outbreak

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The Hudson County Improvement Authority along with the County of Hudson will be postponing the annual Earth Day celebration out of an abundance of caution as concerns about the spread of the COVID-19 continue to rise. Both the 5K Run/Walk and Earth Day Fair, scheduled for April 25 at Liberty State Park, are expected to be rescheduled for a later date.

“After meeting with representatives from the Hudson Regional Health Commission and our County’s administration, we have collectively agreed to postpone our annual Earth Day 5K Run/Walk and Fair,” said Hudson County Improvement Authority CEO Norman Guerra. “This decision was made out of an abundance of caution as the COVID-19 virus continues to spread and organizations across the country begin to reschedule large scale events. The HCIA is committed to promoting the best environmental protection habits and recycling practices year round and we look forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in the coming months.”

“While I am saddened that this wonderful event must be postponed this year, I fully support the decision by the HCIA to do it,” said Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise. “The deeper message of Earth Day is about encouraging wise choices — this should hold true whether the issue is protecting our environment or our public health and safety.”
