COVID-19 UPDATE 4/9/2020
Mayor Davis has directed OEM to keep residents informed on all the latest information related to this health emergency.
Here are the latest stats:
NJ Residents Positive – 51,027
NJ Residents Negative – NO LONGER REPORTED
NJ Residents Percent Positivity – 44.1%
Hudson County Residents Positive – 5,879
Bayonne Residents CURRENTLY Positive – 349*
- The number above reflects only the Bayonne residents that are CURRENTLY COVID-19 Positive. We still have over 40 residents that are RECOVERED. Recovered patients no longer have to isolate or be reported. Most of the current positive residents are recovering at home.
IF YOU CAN’T GET TESTED, AND HAVE SYPMTOMS OF COVID-19, ASSUME THAT YOU ARE POSITIVE AND FOLLOW SELF-ISOLATION AND TREATMENT ORDERS FROM YOUR PHYSICIAN
BAYONNE MEDICAL CENTER TESTING: The Bayonne Medical Center has been conducting testing at Ahern Veterans Memorial Stadium for First Responders/Healthcare workers and patients of CarePoint doctors. The BMC has secured more test kits and will be able to test patients of all doctors in Bayonne at Veterans Stadium beginning next week (Monday 4/13/20). Every doctor in Bayonne has received instructions on how to schedule appointments for their patients. Your doctor will not be sending anyone that is not experiencing symptoms and your doctor MUST schedule an appointment. Testing will be conducted each weekday from 10am-12pm. ONLY PEOPLE WITH APPOINTMENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE STADIUM AREA. Anyone that shows up without an appointment for testing at this BMC testing site will be turned away. Please do not contact OEM to assist in the testing process, as we have no ability to assist in BMC’s testing site.
IMPORTANT Testing Information: NO ONE WILL BE TESTED AT ANY SITE UNLESS YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS. Regardless of testing location, we are not aware of ANY testing site that will perform a test unless you are symptomatic (includes at least fever and cough). If you have these symptoms and have not been tested, ASSUME THAT YOU ARE POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS and follow your doctor’s instructions on self-isolation and treatment. Anyone that is currently ill and experiences a deterioration of symptoms, including difficulty breathing should call your physician or dial 9-1-1. Due to the limited number of tests available at any site, NO ONE WILL BE TESTED UNLESS YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS. Please do not contact Bayonne Office of Emergency Management for testing, as we do not have the ability to schedule anyone for testing.
HUDSON COUNTY TESTING OPTION: Do you need to be tested? You can call the Hudson County COVID-19 Testing Facility (Secaucus). You will be screened and given an appointment (no script needed). NO ONE WILL BE TESTED UNLESS YOU ARE SYMPTOMATIC. Medical professionals continue to advise that using a test on an asymptomatic person can give a false NEGATIVE, wasting that test kit. The numbers to call for the HC Testing Site are: 201-388-1097 or 646-862-1161. Keep in mind that anyone that is being tested, must be symptomatic.
NEW EXECUTIVE ORDERS: The Governor has signed new orders that go into effect tomorrow night at 8pm (Friday 4/10). These orders are significant in regards to supermarkets. All customers and workers inside supermarkets must wear a mask or face covering while inside the store. All supermarkets must limit shoppers to 50% of their stated capacity at any time. There are also rules pertaining to construction. We will update that information tomorrow.
PARKS INFORMATION: The Governor has ordered all STATE and COUNTY parks CLOSED. City Parks will remain open for residents to get exercise. Please continue to practice social distance with anyone that isn’t in your family.
CITY HALL HOTLINE INFORMATION: The mayor’s hotlines have new hours: Senior Citizen Hotline 201-858-6705 and General Hotline 201-858-6105 will both be staffed for calls during City Hall temporary hours 9am-3pm. If you call either number out of hours, please leave a message with callback number and someone will return your call during business hours.
POST OFFICE INFORMATION: The Post Office is dealing with shortages of personnel. During this crisis, they are operating on a day-to-day basis on services. If you have a Post Office Box at the Main Post Office, the lobby is usually open, however, they have not been able to open the lobbies at Bergen Point and Pamrapo stations. Also, they have not had personnel to open any window service, and many postal routes cannot be completed due to lack of personnel. Please do NOT call the Bayonne Police or OEM with questions about the Post Office as this is all the information that we currently have.
Please go to www.covid19.nj.gov or dial 2-1-1 for information related to this virus.
