Bayonne Police Make Multiple Arrests Following Shooting Investigation

On September 23, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m., members of the Bayonne Police Department responded to the area of West 23rd Street and Church Lane on a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, responding officers located a crime scene and recovered three spent shell casings. Shortly thereafter, the Bayonne Police Department was notified that a shooting victim had arrived at the Emergency Department at RWJ Barnabas Health – Bayonne.

Officers responded to the hospital and met with an 18-year-old Bayonne resident, identified as Joseph Pilovsky, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Pilovsky was treated for his injuries and was listed in stable condition.

A swift on-scene investigation led officers to identify a vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting. Within minutes, Bayonne Police detectives located the vehicle in the area of Route 440 North and 30th Street.

The vehicle was occupied by Quamere Allen, 18, of Bayonne; Jayshawn Smith, 18, of Jersey City; and two juveniles, both of Jersey City. All four occupants were taken into custody.

As the investigation continued, members of the Bayonne Police Department Detective Bureau identified an additional juvenile who had previously been an occupant of the suspect vehicle but was no longer inside the vehicle when it was stopped. Detectives determined that the juvenile was the individual who fired the weapon during the incident. Detectives subsequently located the juvenile at his residence and took him into custody. A loaded firearm believed to be the weapon used in the shooting was recovered at this time.

Further investigation determined that Pilovsky was in possession of two loaded firearms during the incident and had pointed one of the firearms toward the suspect vehicle during the altercation. Both firearms in Pilovsky’s possession were recovered by members of the Bayonne Police Department. Pilovsky was subsequently placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

“The quick response by our patrol officers and the immediate investigative efforts of our Detective Bureau resulted in the rapid identification and apprehension of those involved in this incident, as well as the recovery of the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting,” said Chief Scerbo. “This investigation demonstrates the commitment of our officers to holding those responsible for violent acts accountable and removing three illegal firearms from our streets. Our detectives will continue to pursue every lead as this investigation remains ongoing.”
