COVID-19 UPDATE 4/10/2020
Mayor Davis has directed OEM to keep residents informed on all the latest information related to this health emergency.
COVID-19 RELATED DEATHS – Three Bayonne residents, all men, ages 53, 63, and 78, have all passed away from Coronavirus-related illness. These deaths bring our total to 16 pandemic-related fatalities in Bayonne. Mayor Davis extends his condolences, on behalf of all of Bayonne, to the families of these gentlemen.
Here are the latest stats:
NJ Residents Positive – 54,588
NJ Residents Negative – 58,935
NJ Residents Percent Positivity – 44.2%
Hudson County Residents Positive – 6,411
Bayonne Residents CURRENTLY Positive – 370*
- The number above reflects only the Bayonne residents that are CURRENTLY COVID-19 Positive. We have 50 Bayonne residents that are RECOVERED. Recovered patients no longer have to isolate or be reported. Most of the current positive residents are recovering at home, as only ~8% of Bayonne residents that are positive are currently hospitalized at BMC.
IF YOU CAN’T GET TESTED, AND HAVE SYPMTOMS OF COVID-19, ASSUME THAT YOU ARE POSITIVE AND FOLLOW SELF-ISOLATION AND TREATMENT ORDERS FROM YOUR PHYSICIAN
BAYONNE MEDICAL CENTER TESTING: The BMC is expanding their testing site capabilities to include patients from all doctors within Bayonne. Every doctor in Bayonne has received instructions on how to schedule appointments for their patients. ONLY YOUR DOCTOR CAN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. City Hall/OEM cannot assist in getting you an appointment. Your doctor MUST schedule an appointment. Testing will be conducted each weekday from 10am-12pm. ONLY PEOPLE WITH APPOINTMENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE STADIUM AREA. Anyone that shows up without an appointment for testing at this BMC testing site will be turned away. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE CITY HOTLINE OR OEM FOR ASSISTANCE IN GETTING TESTED. EVERY DOCTOR IN BAYONNE HAS RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS AND ONLY HE/SHE CAN ASSIST YOU IN GETTING SCHEDULED FOR A TEST. IF YOUR DOCTOR SAYS HE/SHE ISN’T AWARE, THEN HE/SHE MUST CONTACT BMC. PLEASE DO NOT CALL CITY HALL/OEM FOR TESTING.
IMPORTANT Testing Information: NO ONE WILL BE TESTED AT ANY SITE UNLESS YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS. Regardless of testing location, we are not aware of ANY testing site that will perform a test unless you are symptomatic (includes at least fever and cough). If you have these symptoms and have not been tested, ASSUME THAT YOU ARE POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS and follow your doctor’s instructions on self-isolation and treatment. Anyone that is currently ill and experiences a deterioration of symptoms, including difficulty breathing should call your physician or dial 9-1-1. Due to the limited number of tests available at any site, NO ONE WILL BE TESTED UNLESS YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS.
HUDSON COUNTY TESTING OPTION: All residents of Hudson County can be tested at the Regional Center. You can call the Hudson County COVID-19 Testing Facility (Secaucus). You will be screened and given an appointment (no script needed). NO ONE WILL BE TESTED UNLESS YOU ARE SYMPTOMATIC. Medical professionals continue to advise that using a test on an asymptomatic person can give a false NEGATIVE, wasting that test kit. The numbers to call for the HC Testing Site are: 201-388-1097 or 646-862-1161.
NEW EXECUTIVE ORDERS: NEW EXECUTIVE ORDERS: Governor Murphy signed several new Executive Orders this week, the most significant of which impact essential retail businesses (including supermarkets and grocery stores) and construction projects. Most notably, all customers and workers inside an essential retail business are now required to wear a mask or face covering and all essential retail businesses must limit the number of shoppers at any one time to 50% of their stated maximum capacity. The Governor has also placed severe restrictions on non-essential construction projects throughout the state. As such, as of 8:00 p.m. tonight, all construction projects in Bayonne must cease operations. In order to resume operations at a particular site, an “Application for Exemption from Moratorium” must be properly filed with the City of Bayonne’s Building Department. A copy of the Exemption Application can be found on the City’s Website at: http://www.bayonnenj.org/Departments/administration/building/.
PARKS INFORMATION: The Governor has ordered all STATE and COUNTY parks CLOSED. City Parks will remain open for residents to get exercise. Please continue to practice social distance with anyone that isn’t in your family.
CITY HALL HOTLINE INFORMATION: The mayor’s hotlines have new hours: Senior Citizen Hotline 201-858-6705 and General Hotline 201-858-6105 will both be staffed for calls during City Hall temporary hours 9am-3pm. If you call either number out of hours, please leave a message with callback number and someone will return your call during business hours. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER TO GET TESTED. ONLY PHYSICIANS CAN SCHEDULE YOU FOR TESTING.
POST OFFICE INFORMATION: The USPS in Bayonne continues to work with severe shortages of personnel, due to this pandemic. We have no information related to the USPS, other than what we have previously posted. Please contact the USPS Bayonne 201-339-2029. Please do not call the Bayonne Police with questions about the Post Office, as they do not have any information other than what has been shared previously.
