Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla has announced that the city has reached an agreement with a local Urgent Care facility to provide door to door testing of senior citizens for the coronavirus. The Mayor made the announcement this afternoon through a series of tweets.
The Mayor stated it can be difficult for seniors to travel for testing, that’s why he is so excited to make this announcement. Saying Hoboken is taking proactive steps, Mayor Bhalla tweeted the city will be testing seniors “in certain senior buildings for COVID-19 thanks to a partnership with @promptmdhoboken.” The testing will take place this Wednesday, April 29. Dr. Javed Islam will be making the visits.
Prompt MD is located at 309 First Street in Hoboken, offering urgent care seven days a week. They also have a five day a week family practice at 1122 Washington Street.
Mayor Bhalla says if a senior citizen’s medical insurance doesn’t cover the cost of the test, “the City will pay for it without charge to the senior.”
Any Hoboken resident who has COVID-19 symptoms and needs a test can call the City Hall @HobokenCERT hotline at (201) 420-5621, Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Mayor Bhalla thanked the Hoboken Health Department , Director Leo Pellegrini, Prompt MD, Councilman Ruben Ramos and the City Council for making this arrangement possible.
