Paterson Man Arrested For Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child

PATERSON MAN ARRESTED FOR AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF CHILD 

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announce the arrest of James Jackson, Jr., 37 years old, from Paterson, New Jersey. Mr. Jackson was arrested on April 15, 2021 after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

Mr. Jackson is charged with two counts of first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, two counts of second degree Sexual Assault, and two counts of second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

On April 6, 2021, the Paterson Police Department received a report of a sixteen-year-old child who disclosed being sexually abused at an earlier age. Thereafter, Prosecutor’s Office Detectives interviewed the victim and multiple witnesses. The victim reported being sexually abused by Mr. Jackson on numerous occasions at residences in Paterson between September 2012 and September 2015. The sentencing exposure on first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault where the victim is under the age of thirteen is twenty five years to life in New Jersey State Prison, subject to a twenty five year parole disqualifier pursuant to the Jessica Lunsford Act; on second degree Sexual Assault it is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the term to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act; and on second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child it is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison.

If convicted, Mr. Jackson is subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration requirements. Mr. Jackson is presently detained at the Passaic County Jail. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office will file a motion for the pretrial detention of the defendant which will be heard before a Superior Court Judge. A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
