Hoboken Advisory: Boil Water Order Remains In Effect; City Continues Post Storm Cleanup

A boil water order issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and SUEZ remains in effect. The boil water order was issued after the heavy rains caused by Hurricane Ida caused damage to the aqueduct in the Cedar Grove Township, which has since been repaired.

Residents should boil their water before using it for drinking or cooking.

Even if your water is filtered at home, you must boil your water for one minute and allow it to cool for the following uses: drinking, cooking, baking, washing dishes, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets or other consumption. Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.

A water tanker for residents to fill their own containers is available at 221 Monroe St. until 5 p.m. today. Residents can pick up bottled water at the Multi Service Center at 124 Grand St. Water bottles are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please only take what you need.

SUEZ is awaiting test results on water samples taken yesterday after the damage to the aqueduct was repaired. This process takes 24-48 hours.

The boil water order will remain in effect until the tests show that the water is safe to drink. SUEZ will notify customers when the order is lifted.

Post-storm cleanup continues

The City began removing debris from sewer backups and intersections yesterday and will continue today. Street sweeping, parking meter enforcement, and the Hop shuttle services are scheduled to resume on Tuesday.

The City will expedite permits for storm recovery.  Permits are required for demolition and clean out of flood damaged building materials, such as drywall, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, plumbing fixtures, and any electrical or mechanical equipment for heating and cooling.
