Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information pertaining to a police officer pleading guilty to assault by auto:
This morning a Jersey City Police Officer pleaded guilty to charges relating to a 2020 collision involving the marked police vehicle he was operating and a bicyclist. 27-year old Christopher Hill pleaded guilty to one count of assault by auto, a disorderly persons offense, before the Honorable Carlo Abad.
As part of his plea agreement, Hill will forfeit all present and future employment in law enforcement, effective immediately. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, May 12, 2022.
According to Prosecutor Suarez, the investigation revealed that on September 20, 2020, Hill, while in the course of his duties as a Police Officer with the Jersey City Police Department, was operating a marked police vehicle in a reckless manner while in pursuit of a bicyclist on Ravine Avenue. Hill struck the bicyclist with his vehicle, causing bodily injury to the male cyclist.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the HCPO Public Integrity Unit with the investigation.
