Union City celebrated the 205th anniversary of the independence of El Salvador with a flag raising ceremony at International Plaza across from City Hall on Tuesday afternoon.
Police officer Javier Umana, a 9-year veteran of the force, received a city proclamation from Mayor Brian Stack and the Board of Commissioners, which was presented by Hudson County Commissioner Fanny Cedeno.
Officer Umana spent four years as a United States Marine before joining the Union City Police Department after living in Texas for a short while.
Union City Commissioners Wendy Grullon and Maryury Martinetti attended Tuesday’s event.
