Hoboken Detective Lieutenant Danilo Cabrera reports that 47-year old Jose Carreno of North Bergen was arrested on Tuesday night, April 5 at 9:45 pm at 162 14th Street for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and using a cell phone while operating a moving vehicle.
According to Cabrera, at about 9:35 PM, Police Officer Tyrone Huggins responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of 14th and Garden Street. Officer Huggins found two vehicles involved and spoke to the operators.
Officer Huggins suspected that one of the operators, identified as Carreno, was under the influence of an intoxicant. A standardized field sobriety test was conducted by Police Officer Anthony Rutkowski and determined Carreno was unable to safely operate a motor vehicle. Carreno was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and transported to police headquarters.
Carreno provided the necessary breath samples and received motor vehicle summonses as described above. He was released to a responsible party.
The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
