Photo Credit: cbsnews.com One West New York Police Officer was shot last night outside of a home on 59th Street between Hudson and Palisade Avenues. The officer, who was taken to a local hospital, was reportedly shot in the shoulder and is expected to be fine.
Various media outlets were reporting last night that the suspect was shot and killed, but the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, which has taken over the investigation, has not confirmed that information as of 9:30 this morning. Because the incident involved an officer-involved shooting, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is also taking part in the investigation.
The tense scene went on for hours into the night, with the SWAT Unit stationed outside the residence on 59th Street trying to get anyone inside to come out of the building. SWAT members eventually entered the home with their weapons drawn. Initial reports Friday night which said the incident was a case of domestic violence have yet to be confirmed.
One man did come out of the building with his hands over his head, but there was no confirmation as to whether he was involved in the incident or was just a resident of the building.
This story will be updated as more details are confirmed.
