An arrest has been made in last night’s fatal shooting of a female in Bayonne according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. While a cause is not known, the details are tragic, as the suspect is allegedly the victim’s father. Suarez released a statement this afternoon saying that the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Bayonne Police Department are investigating the fatal shooting of a female that occurred on Monday, June 12, 2023. “At approximately 11:35 p.m., the Bayonne Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting inside of an apartment at 331 Avenue E. Upon arrival, responding officers located a female victim – later identified as Keyanna Brown, 27, of Bayonne – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.”
According to Suarez, the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will make that announcement.
Prosecutor Suarez says the victim’s father, 52-year old Errol Brown of Bayonne, has been arrested and charged with murder. He has also been charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Homicide Unit and the Bayonne Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
