The Union City Board of Education’s Young Marines Program is open to boys and girls from the eighth grade to high school graduation. It teaches discipline, self-confidence and self-worth. And respect!! The program is the precursor to the Junior R.O.T.C. Program, and it is one of only 30 nationwide, and the only one in New Jersey.
The program began on July 5th and continues through the end of the month. Students meet five days a week, Monday through Friday from 8 am until 12 noon.
On Thursday, Hudson TV paid a visit to the Emerson Middle School gymnasium where the summer class of recruits was learning marching drills; the proper formations; and how to embody the core values of a United States Marine.
The R.O.T.C. Program began in the Union City Public Schools back in 1995, but only recently, at the urging of parents, was the Young Marine Program added.
You can sign up for the Junior R.O.T.C. Program, or learn more about the Young Marines, by calling (201) 835-2640, or sending an email to youngmarinesuc@gmail.com.
