On Monday, July 17th, 2023, at approximately 1:33 AM, the Guttenberg Police Department received a call requesting assistance with a large fight at the M Bar and Restaurant, located at 7000 Kennedy Boulevard. The Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division immediately responded.
Upon arrival, police observed a group of individuals in a heated verbal argument with the establishment’s staff. As police officers tried to intervene between the two groups, two individuals began assaulting the first three Guttenberg officers who initially arrived on the scene.
Guttenberg Police asked for, and received, assistance from the North Bergen Police Department. During the fight, Guttenberg Police arrested a 34-year-old, M. Baca-Turcios, of Jersey City as well as 29-year-old Napoleon Anduray-Romero of Union City. As the result of his arrest, Baca-Turcios was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and failure to make lawful disposition.
Meanwhile, Anduray-Romero was charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, three counts of resisting arrest with force, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, failure to make lawful disposition and disorderly conduct. Baca-Turcios and Anduray-Romero were both taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
Both men were later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Center, in Kearny.
Three members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division sustained injuries during this incident. They were subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and later released.
