A Jersey City woman has been charged with stealing money from the Jersey City Housing Authority.  This morning, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reported that members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit arrested a 53-year-old woman on Thursday, August 10th following an investigation.

According to Suarez, funds had been reported missing from the Housing Authority.  The investigation led to the arrest of Tyest Bryant of Jersey City.  She has been charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, a crime of the third degree.

Officials arrested Bryant yesterday at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus. She was released on a summons pending her first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

According to a release from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, “the investigation found that Bryant, in her capacity as a resident board member for the Booker T. Washington Housing Complex, misused over $20,000 of funds for personal benefit between 2017 and 2022.”

The charges against Bryant are merely accusations and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
