HOBOKEN, NJ – On Friday, October 20, 2023, at approximately 10 p.m., an Israeli flag was stolen from outside Hoboken City Hall. The flag had been flying at half-staff in memory of the lives lost in the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack in Israel. A police report has been filed, and anyone with information is urged to contact Det. John Quinones at (201) 420-2100 ext. 3182.
Today, Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla was joined by Rabbi Robert Scheinberg of the United Synagogue of Hoboken to re-raise the Israeli flag. Both leaders took this opportunity to condemn the act and reaffirm the city’s commitment to inclusivity and against hatred.
Statement from Mayor Bhalla:
“I am disturbed by the brazen theft of the Israeli flag,” said Mayor Bhalla. “Hoboken is a diverse city that stands for fairness and inclusivity. Antisemitism, or any form of hatred and bigotry, has no place in our city.”
