37-year old Khaliyah Bordeaux of Van Wagenen Avenue in Jersey City is facing arson charges after allegedly setting a baby stroller on fire in front of a daycare center in Bayonne.

According to Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato, officers responded to the area of 44th Street and JFK Boulevard on Monday, December 4th at 12 noon.  Captain Amato says police received a report of a baby stroller on fire adjacent to The Lauren Wendroff Early Children’s Academy at 1050 JFK Boulevard.  When police arrived, they were met by a representative from the school who had extinguished the blaze.  An investigation, which included a review of video surveillance footage, was immediately done.

Amato says the surveillance footage shows a female approaching the stroller and setting it on fire before fleeing the scene.  A description of the female suspect was broadcast to all units and a search immediately got underway in the area.  Captain Amato says during the investigation, an officer matched the suspect’s description to a female, whom he identified as Bordeaux, that had just approached him in the area of 44th Street and JFK Boulevard regarding her vehicle being impounded in the past.

At that point a complaint warrant was issued for her arrest as the Bayonne Detective Bureau continued the investigation.

At 9 o’clock this morning Bayonne detectives were alerted that Bordeaux was currently at the Bayonne Police Traffic Division impound lot at 330 Hook Road attempting to retrieve her impounded vehicle.

Captain Amato say Bordeaux was ultimately taken into custody. Police say Monday’s incident is not considered bias-related and it was not committed with intent to intimidate anyone because of their Jewish religion or damage property because of its affiliation with the Jewish religion.
