Former North Bergen DPW Superintendent Finally Sentenced

78-year old, former North Bergen Department of Public Works Superintendent James Wiley has finally been sentenced by a Hudson County Superior Court Judge, twelve years after being originally charged.  Back in 2012, Wiley pleaded guilty to having township employees perform personal chores for him at his home and do political campaigning while on the township’s clock.

On Wednesday, the more than decades’ long corruption investigation finally wrapped up with Judge Carlo Abad sentencing Wiley to two years of probation, but no jail time, during his sentencing hearing.

Wiley had made a new plea deal with prosecutors last fall.  That agreement, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, had Wiley accepting a guilty plea of third-degree unlawful taking, plus a sentence of noncustodial probation which had been recommended by prosecutors.

The plea allowed Wiley to avoid time behind bars.
