A four-foot diameter sundial, crafted out of Argentinian marble, has been donated to the City of Union City by the Laccetti Foundation and unveiled in Ellsworth Park.
The extraordinary work pays tribute to Italian artist Vincenzo Pellarin, who introduced the Terrazzo mosaic art form to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and whose family has long-standing ties to Union City.
Design and engineering work for the sundial was performed by Warren Fisher.
Silvio Laccetti, a retired professor at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, founded the Foundation, which has previously honored the first Little League program in the country with a statue in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The Laccetti Foundation has sponsored numerous educational initiatives around the country.
