Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reports that a 14-year old boy has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of a 19-year old male in Jersey City on Friday, October 11, 2024.
According to Prosecutor Suarez, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested the boy on Monday, October 21st on Bergen Avenue in Jersey City and charged him as a juvenile with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Because juvenile matters are confidential, the Prosecutor’s Office is not releasing additional information at this time.
Suarez does say that shortly before 5 p.m. on October 11, 2024, the Jersey City Police Department was notified that shots were fired in the area of Garfield Avenue and Brown Place. When responding officers arrived, they located a male victim – later identified as 19-year old Kashyne Grant of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment, where he was pronounced dead just after 10 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
