Rep. Rob Menendez Easily Wins Second Term In US House of Representatives

New Jersey’s 8th District Congressman Rob Menendez of Jersey City has easily won a second term in the United States House of Representatives, defeating Republican challenger Anthony Valdes of West New York.  With more than 93% of districts reporting, Menendez led Valdes 58.77% to 33.93%.  Menendez tallied 82,049 votes to Valdes’ 47,359.

In addition to representing a majority of Hudson County, the district features a section of Newark and the City of Elizabeth.

In the other Congressional districts representing Hudson County, Democrat LaMonica McIver, who replaced Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. who died earlier this year,

              won election in District 10, while Democratic State Senator Nellie Pou won election in District 9, replacing longtime Rep. Bill Pascrell, who passed away a few months ago.

 In the United States Senate race, where convicted Senator Robert Menendez recently resigned, Democratic south Jersey Congressman Any Kim easily defeated Republican opponent Curtis Bashaw.
