Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced today that the Honorable Mitzy Galis-Menendez sentenced a 35-year-old Bayonne man to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison for his role in the fatal stabbing of his wife in 2022.

The sentencing was announced on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Suarez says Peter Revelo previously pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter.  Revelo’s sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act and 85% of the prison time must be served before he is eligible for parole.

A press release from the Prosecutor’s Office states, “On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at approximately 11:58 a.m., the Bayonne Police Department received a 911 call for service to 105 North Street. Responding officers found a woman, later identified as Mely Vanessa Tafoya Mendoza, 33, of Bayonne, with an apparent stab wound to her torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:36 p.m.”
