It’s Saturday, May 24th, which means it’s the day of Hoboken’s Summer Season Kick Off with an Open Gym & Community BBQ at the Damon Murray Community Gym, located at 605 Jackson Street.
According to a city press release, from 12 noon until 4 p.m., residents can enjoy hot dogs from local favorite Cal’s Hot Dogs and ice cream cones from Mr. Softee outside the gym at Seventh and Jackson Streets. Tickets will be distributed for one ice-cream cone and one hot dog per person. The first 200 hot dogs and 200 ice cream cones will be free and provided by the City. After the free servings run out, both vendors will have items available for purchase.
The Damon Murray Community Gym will be open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. for community members to shoot hoops and enjoy indoor recreation and free play. Residents should bring their own basketball as they will not be provided. Please note, children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult to participate.
Mayor Ravi Bhalla stated, “While I know some people may be away this weekend, not everyone will be, and that is why we’re inviting residents to come together here in Hoboken and celebrate the start of summer as a community. This event is about connection, fun, and honoring community right here at home.”
Residents are encouraged to arrive early, as use of the gym and food is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note, no organized team practices are permitted.
