Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill has won the Democratic nomination for Governor in a landslide over a field of candidates which included Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.
She will take on Republican Jack Ciattarelli, a former New Jersey Assemblyman, who easily won the GOP Primary, in November’s General Election.
Sherrill won by a two to one margin, with Mayor Fulop and Mayor Baraka fighting it out for a distant second. Ciattarelli outdistanced Bill Spadea by close to 50 percentage points.
Sherrill had the support of the Hudson County Democratic Organization.
Outgoing, two-term Governor Phil Murphy, issued the following statement:
“I want to offer my congratulations to both Mikie and Jack for earning the trust and support of primary voters all across our state.”
