17-Year Old To Be Prosecuted As Adult In Connection To 2024 Fatal Jersey City Shooting

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced that 17-year-old Kaison Brown of South Amboy has been charged in connection with the 2024 fatal shooting of Resheed Wallace.  Brown will be prosecuted as an adult.

The charges against Brown are murder; felony murder; robbery; conspiracy to commit robbery; possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; and unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to Suarez, the incident took place on Friday, May 10, 2024, shortly before 10 p.m.   The Jersey City Police Department received a report that shots had been fired in the area of Pearsall Avenue and Garfield Avenue.  A press release from the Prosecutor’s Office states, “Responding police officers located a male victim – later identified as Resheed Wallace, 24, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:25 p.m.  The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Gunshot Wound to the Upper Body and the Manner to be Homicide.”

Suarez says two additional individuals have also been charged in relation to the matter.

Makiyy Randolph, 22, of Paterson is charged with murder; felony murder; conspiracy to commit robbery; possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; and unlawful possession of a weapon.  He was arrested on Friday, July 12, 2024, on Gates Avenue in Jersey City after a brief foot pursuit.  Randolph was also charged with obstruction and resisting arrest by flight.

A 14-year-old female is charged as a juvenile with murder; felony murder; robbery; conspiracy to commit robbery; possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendants and juvenile are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
