Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop has announced on social media that there was an officer involved shooting last night in the municipality.

The Mayor posted on Facebook that “Last night, there was an officer-involved shooting near Ege Avenue and Bergen Avenue.  Please stay clear of the area due to ongoing investigation. Members of the JCPD Street Crimes Unit observed an individual acting suspiciously and noticed a bulge in his clothing consistent with a possible firearm. When officers approached, the individual opened fire on a JCPD officer. The officer returned fire, striking the suspect.  The suspect was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. The Jersey City Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office have secured the scene.”
