Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello reports that on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, Gang Task Force, and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested a 28-year-old male wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in May 2025.

Gerard Rosario, of Jersey City, is charged with murder; unlawful possession of a weapon; possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; and certain persons not to possess a firearm.  Mello says he was arrested on 38th Street in Union City and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

According to a press release from the Prosecutor, “Shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle crash in the area of Old Bergen Road and Merritt Street in Jersey City. Responding officers located an unresponsive male in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree on Merritt Street. The unresponsive male – later identified as Devon Reid, 39, of Elizabeth – was discovered with a gunshot wound to the neck. Reid was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:16 p.m.”

Acting Prosecutor Mello credited the Homicide Unit, Gang Task Force, and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force with the arrest. The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
