Prosecutor’s Collision Unit Investigating Fatal Union City Hit-And-Run

Vehicular tragedy in Union City on Saturday.  Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello reports that the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Union City Police Department are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. 

The Union City Police Department was notified that a pedestrian had been struck in the area of 30th Street and Palisades Avenue.  Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers found a female victim – later identified as 83-year old, Union City resident Fabiola Bedoya, – with serious injuries.  The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.  Bedoya was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead just after 6:15 p.m.

During the initial investigation, the vehicle suspected of being involved in the collision was located and a person of interest was identified, but that information has not been released to the media.  This matter is actively being investigated by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit.
