Bayonne, Weehawken & Union City Residents Elect Governing Bodies Tuesday

While early voting has already taken place, residents living in three, Hudson County municipalities will go to the polls tomorrow, Tuesday, May 12th, to elect Mayors, Council members or Commissioners.

There is no drama in Union City, as Mayor Brian Stack and his fellow Commissioners, Celin Valdivia, Lucio Fernandez, Maryury Martinetti and Wendy Grullon are all running for re-election unopposed.

The same cannot be said for Bayonne and Weehawken.

Residents living in Bayonne are guaranteed to have a new Mayor, as former Mayor Jimmy Davis is now Hudson County Sheriff and interim Mayor Robert Kubert, appointed by the City Council, who serves as the city’s Public Safety Director, chose not to seek election as Mayor.

There are three people seeking the Mayor’s Office; Councilman at Large Loyad Booker, former Councilwoman Sharon Ashe Nadrowski and Mary Jane Desmond, a Trustee of the Bayonne Board of Education.

Bayonne residents will also vote, for two at Large Council members.  They are guaranteed new at Large Council representatives since incumbent member Juan Perez is not seeking re-election and Booker is running for Mayor.  The candidates are Anthony Acosta, Melissa Enriquez-Rada, Ramon Veloz, Mariam Salama and Mark Bottino.

Candidates for First Ward Council member are incumbent Councilman Neil Carroll, Gene Berry, Jim Pearl and Dawn Lavelle.

Candidates for Second Ward Council member are Melissa Godesky Rodriguez, Salvatore Gullace, a former Councilman, Omar Elgarhi and Karen Fiermonte.  Incumbent Jacqueline Weimmer is not seeking re-election.

Four people are running to for Third Ward Council member, including incumbent Gary LaPelusa, the current Council President, as well as Tommy Gillen, John Milan Sebik and Patrick Devaney, Sr.

In Weehawken, residents will elect two, Council members at Large.  Incumbents Richard Turner, the current Mayor, and Robert Sosa are running unopposed.  First and Third Ward Council members Carmela Silvestri-Ehret and David Curtis are running unopposed respectively.  In the Second Ward, where Councilwoman Rosemary Lavagnino is not seeking re-election, there are two candidates looking to replace her.  They are Susan Morales-Jennings and Tina Iordamlis.

The polls in all three municipalities will be open from 6 am until 8 pm.
