Hoboken Accepting Applications For New Firefighters

The City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Fire Department announced applications to become Hoboken Firefighters are now available.

Residents interested in serving their community as firefighters are encouraged to apply for the 2026 New Jersey Civil Service Entry-Level Firefighter Exam, which is expected to be administered this winter. The deadline to apply is Aug. 31 at 4 p.m.

Candidates who pass the written exam and are placed on Hoboken’s certified eligibility list will also be required to pass a physical fitness test and complete a background investigation, including medical, psychiatric, and drug screenings. Recruits hired will attend a New Jersey fire academy to complete their training before beginning on-the-job training as probationary firefighters.

There’s no better place to start your career than with the finest fire department in the State of New Jersey.”

Hoboken firefighters receive competitive starting salaries, comprehensive benefits including health insurance and opportunities for career advancement, while working and learning from highly trained and dedicated professionals. The Hoboken Fire Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
