The 205th anniversary of Peruvian independence from Spain was celebrated with a flag raising ceremony and presentation of proclamations at International Plaza on Tuesday.
City proclamations were presented to two Peruvian-Americans. Roberto Begazo, a social studies and English language arts teacher at Union Hill Middle School, and Rosa Carhuallanqui, a dance instructor, were both recognized.
Numerous other Peruvian immigrants received certificates of appreciation for their contributions to the Union City community.
