A Jersey City Teenager is Arrested By Bayonne Police For Multiple Car Burglaries

An 18-year old Jersey City man has been arrested by Bayonne police for numerous burglaries in the Peninsula City.

According to Captain Eric Amato. Mitch T. West lll of Bergen Avenue was taken into custody at 8:26 a.m. on Thursday, September 17th from the area of West 25th Street. Officers responded to the area on a report of an individual checking door handles of vehicles. Upon arrival, they met with the individual in question, who was later identified as West.

During the on-scene investigation, officers were provided information and video footage of the underground parking garage at 22 West 25th Street. The investigation revealed that West had burglarized a vehicle on September 12, 2020 in that underground parking garage and was subsequently placed under arrest for that incident.

A search led to the recovery of several items from West’s person, including credit cards bearing names other than his own. Further investigation revealed the following additional incidents that occurred on September 17, 2020:

1 act of burglary and theft to a vehicle in the area of West 18th Street, 2 acts of burglary and theft to vehicles in the area of West 25th Street

Further investigation by the Bayonne Police Department’s Detective Bureau revealed that West was also the actor in the following previous incidents:

A victim reported that on September 12th, his wallet was removed from their vehicle in the area of East 19th Street. West was charged in this incident with burglary and theft.

Another victim reported that on September 12th, loose change and credit cards were removed from his vehicle when it was parked in the area of 19th Street and Broadway. It was also reported that West attempted to use the victim’s credit card at a store in Bayonne. West has been charged in this incident with burglary, theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.

A third victim reported that on August 31st, several personal items were removed from her vehicle in the parking garage of 19 E 19th Street. West was charged with burglary and theft in this incident.

Amato says a fourth vctim reported that on August 29th, several personal items were removed from his vehicle, including a credit card in the garage of 19 E 19th Street. They also reported that the credit card was used to make a purchase at a store in Bayonne. West was charged with burglary, theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Finally, a victim reported that on August 25th, several personal items were removed from his vehicle in the area of East 19th Street. West was charged with burglary and theft in this incident
