Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis has delivered the 2022 State of the City Address via You Tube video, It is the first such address since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Davis speaks of the city’s growing population, something which had not happened in decades.
The highlights include economic revitalization to reduce the operating deficit the Administration inherited in 2014. The Mayor speaks about the settlement of lawsuits so redevelopment could begin. He discusses housing developments on Avenue E, the Light Rail System and PILOT programs for developers in order for the city to generate revenues. Davis stresses PILOTS keep residents’ taxes down.

He discusses transportation improvements and the construction of commercial developments, including a mega-UPS warehouse on the former MOTBY site. He highlights the commercial development of the Route 440 corridor. The Mayor also talks about the former, vacant Texaco site which will become a movie studio under the Bayonne Bridge.
He also highlights quality of life, the redesign of the 14A Turnpike exchange and the raising of the Bayonne Bridge to allow enormous cargo ships to pass beneath it on their way to Port Newark and Elizabeth.
Mayor Davis also discusses the ongoing saving of the Bayonne Medical Center as an acute care facility. He highlights improvements to the city’s parks and the creation of new parks.
He highlights the improvement to the city’s streets and the upgrades to the public library. He talks about the addition of many programs to the city’s recreation division, and he discusses the new fairs which have become a staple to the city along with festivals and flag raisings.
He also highlights the numerous female and minority appointments to the many city positions and volunteer organizations. He also talks about the firsts in hirings in both the police and fire departments.
He proudly discusses the decrease in crime, but says domestic violence and mental health matters still need attention.
Finally, Mayor Davis addresses the steps the city has taken since the COVID pandemic began.
