Amy DeGise: HCDO Endorsements For June Primary Still Being Decided

Hudson County Democratic Organization Chairperson Amy DeGise issued a statement over the weekend after a report surfaced late last week saying 4th District Freeholder Joel Torres would not have the support of the party in the upcoming June Primary election.

The news that the HCDO was not backing Torres was first reported by the New Jersey Globe.  Torres, who was elected in November, 2017, according to the article, was going to be replaced on the HCDO line by Yraida Aponte-Lipski, the wife of former Jersey City Councilman Steve Lipski.

Chairperson DeGise, however, says final candidate endorsements are still pending.  She issued the following statement:

“As Chairwoman of the Hudson County Democratic Organization, I’m proud of our record of helping re-elect Senator Menendez and our entire Democratic ticket in the last two years with overwhelming margins of victory and strong turnout. At this point we have not reached a final decision on all of our party’s endorsements in the upcoming June Primary election. Discussions with my fellow Democratic leaders in both elected office and in the grassroots are ongoing, and we will announce our ticket soon.”

The 4th Freeholder District in Jersey City encompasses the Heights neighborhood, Journal Square and downtown.

The initial New Jersey Globe story indicated that Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop and Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise supported Aponte-Lipski for the Freeholder seat.
