The following is a summary of all of the holiday closings and suspensions for Christmas and New Year’s in Bayonne, including City Hall, garbage and recycling collections, and parking enforcement

Civilian offices at City Hall:  Closed Friday, December 22; Monday, December 25; Friday, December 29; and Monday, January 1. City Hall is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, so it would also not be open on December 23, December 24, December 30, or December 31 in any case.

Garbage and Recycling: In Zone 1*, there will be no garbage pick-ups on Sunday night, December 24, or Sunday night, December 31, due to the closing of the regional garbage transfer station for Christmas and New Year’s.  Otherwise, all regular garbage and recycling pick-ups will remain in effect throughout the holiday season.

Street-sweeping and alternate side parking: Suspended Friday, December 22; Monday, December 25; Friday, December 29; and Monday, January 1.  Note:  Street-sweeping and alternate side parking are often suspended in winter anyway, due to snow and ice on the streets.

Parking permit zone enforcement: Suspended on Friday, December 22; Monday, December 25; Friday, December 29; and Monday, January 1.  The permit zones are not in effect on Saturdays and Sundays.

On-street parking meters: Enforcement suspended on Friday, December 22; Monday, December 25; Friday, December 29; and Monday, January 1. On-street parking meters will be enforced the other days of the week that they are normally in effect, unless snow and ice make it impractical. Meters and pay stations are not in effect on Sundays, so there would be no meter fees in effect on Sunday, December 24, or Sunday, December 31 in any case.

Free parking for four hours in Parking Utility lots: Will be in effect for non-commercial vehicles for the month of December.  Total enforcement of pay stations at Parking Utility lots for non-commercial vehicles will resume on Tuesday, January 2.  Pay station enforcement will be suspended completely for all vehicles on December 22, 25, and 29, and on January 1.  Meters and pay stations are not in effect on Sundays, so there would be no meter fees in effect on Sunday, December 24, or Sunday, December 31 in any case.

Bayonne Public Library Story Court Branch (16 West 4th Street): Closed Friday, December 22; Monday, December 25; Friday, December 29; and Monday, January 1. The library is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, so it would also not be open on December 23, December 24, December 30, or December 31 in any case.

Note: The main library at 31st Street and Avenue C remains closed for major renovations.  It will re-open on a date to be announced in 2024.

*Zone 1 extends from 1st Street to 16th Street.  Zone 1 also includes Trembley Court and Country Village Court, because they connect to 16th Street and do not intersect with streets in Zone 2.
