Bayonne Board of Education Trustee Joseph Broderick, a former Board President, resigned from the Board at the December 10 meeting, saying he was moving out of the city.  Broderick served as President until 2019, when he was replaced by current President Maria Valado.  Valado’s ticket won the school election in November, 2019.

Replacing Broderick on the Board is the Vice President of Marketing for BCB Bank, Pam Sclafane, who will take her seat as a Trustee at the January Board of Education meeting.  Her appointment adds another Trustee who supports Mayor Jimmy Davis.

The Board currently has a few projects it is working through, including the likely purchase of two, former Catholic school buildings.  A professional background in marketing and finance will most probably be critical in those decisions.

The only Board Trustee to vote against Sclafane’s appointment was Trustee Ava Finnerty.  Trustee Michael Alonso was absent from the December 10 meeting.
