Bayonne Council Awards $1.97M BRIC Contract for 63rd Street Pump Station

Bayonne City Council on Wednesday, Sept. 16 unanimously awarded a $1,971,800 contract to Montana Construction Corp., Inc. for flood-resiliency upgrades at the 63rd Street Pumping Station. The project is funded by a FEMA BRIC (Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities) grant.

The Country Village-area station handles sewer and stormwater flows and is one of three sites required to install emergency generators under state and possible federal mandates.

“It hardens our infrastructure for Superstorm-type events and makes sure that our sewers are pumping and able to operate, not just for stormwater, because in storms we’re still using the bathrooms,” Director Egan told the council.

Vote Breakdown

The contract passed 5-0. Council members Bottino, Gillen, Perry, Salama and Godesky-Rodriguez all voted yes. The generator equipment had been delayed in customs, forcing late-stage action to keep the project within the grant timeline.

“I hope it’s the last time we’re going to be talking about the generators at a council meeting,” Egan said.
