38-year old Devron R. Pervis of West 30th Street in Bayonne was taken into custody by Bayonne Police on Friday night after allegedly stabbing a city juvenile. According to Captain Eric Amato, Purvis was taken into custody at 8:23 in the area of 45th Street and Avenue E.
When officers arrived at the location after receiving a report of a stabbing, they found two men fighting. Each person was covered in blood. According to a police report, the male juvenile victim, a Bayonne resident, told officers he was walking in the area when he was approached by Purvis, who began assaulting him.
Amato says during the attack Purvis pulled a folding pocket knife and stabbed the victim in his back. Family members of the victim and local residents were able to break up the fight. Police say the knife used by Purvis was found on the ground.
During the altercation, Purvis suffered an eye injury and a hand laceration.
Both the juvenile victim and Purvis were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. The two people do not know one another.
Purvis has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and the unlawful possession of a weapon.
