Bayonne Losing Its Rite Aid

77 Rite Aid stores nationwide are shutting their doors, including six in New Jersey and one in Hudson County, that store being located at 1097 Broadway in Bayonne.  The company previously announced it would be shutting 75 stores in 15 states.

The struggling drug store chain announced in October, 2023 that it had filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy due to falling sales, increasing competition, and mounting debt resulting from opioid-related lawsuits.

Rite Aid has 1,704 stores in the United States, down from approximately 4,600 in 2013.

Approximately 2,000 stores were sold to Walgreens in 2017.   That came after a deal to sell the drugstore chain to its rival was killed by federal regulators.

No specific date for the Bayonne closure was announced.
