Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato reports that 28-year old Jay F. Romero of East 22nd Street in Bayonne was arrested on Sunday morning after police received reports of shots having been fired.
Romero was taken into custody at 12:31 am from the area of East 22nd Street. Captain Amato says police officers responded to the area of East 31st Street where Romero was observed fleeing the scene in a white pick-up truck. He was headed towards Prospect Avenue.
Officers immediately began an investigation and learned that Romero and another male met in the area. During the meeting, Romero fired two shots toward an empty lot before the two fled the area. A canvas of the area resulted in officers locating the suspect’s pick-up truck, occupied by only Romero, a short while after the incident.
The on-scene investigation resulted in Romero being positively identified as the individual who fired the shots. No firearm was recovered.
Romano faces charges of possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
