Bayonne Man Arrested For Disorderly Conduct and Threatening Officers

Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato has announced the Thursday arrest of 27-year old, Matthew T. Harley of Broadway in Bayonne.

According yo Captain Amato, Harley was taken into custody at 10:19 am from the area of West 2nd Street.  Officers responded to the area of West 2nd Street on a report of a disturbance involving a male possibly armed with a knife.  A description of the male, later identified as Harley, was broadcast to responding units.  As officers arrived, they were able to locate Harley involved in a heated argument with two other males.

As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by separating the males, Harley refused to comply and continued to behave belligerently by refusing to remove his hands from his pockets as he shouted threats of violence toward the officers.  During the entirety of the investigation, Harley continued shouting threats of violence toward an officer and, due to his aggressive and tumultuous behavior, caused area residents to became alarmed and emerge from their homes to investigate what was occurring outside.

During the investigation, officers attempted to obtain his pedigree information when Harley provided a false name of “Clark Kent.”  Harley was placed under arrest and his true identity was obtained, revealing that he was wanted on 3 outstanding warrants; 1 out of Bayonne and 2 out of Jersey City.  He was processed accordingly.  No knife was recovered.  

Harley is charged with Terroristic Threats, Obstructing a Governmental Function, Hindering Apprehension, Disorderly Conduct and Contempt (3 counts).
