On Thursday, October 7, 2021, at approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested Magdy Botros, age 51, of Bayonne for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision. The arrest followed an investigation into a March 24, 2021 hit-and-run incident in which he struck a female pedestrian causing serious injuries.

Botros was arrested at the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor in Jersey City without incident after he surrendered to detectives. He has been charged with one count of Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1, a third-degree crime.

Following his arrest, Botros was released on a Summons Complaint and his first appearance is scheduled in Central Judicial Processing Court on October 28, 2021.

On March 24, 2021, shortly after 9:10 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Palisade Avenue just south of Bowers Street in Jersey City on reports of a pedestrian struck with serious injuries.

Upon arrival, responding officers found a 31-year-old Jersey City woman who was struck and seriously injured while crossing Palisade Avenue. The victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where she was treated for her injuries. The driver who struck the woman fled the scene.

The investigation identified the vehicle involved in the incident as a 2014 Toyota Camry which was operated at the time by Botros. He is also the registered owner of the vehicle.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit with the investigation and arrest and the Jersey City Police Department for assisting with the investigation.

The above charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
