Bayonne Man Arrested For Threatening Two Women With a Knife

23-year old Jan Mario Williams Rivera of West 29^th Street in Bayonne has been arrested by Bayonne Police according to Captain Eric Amato.  Captain Amato says Williams Rivera was taken into custody at 6:24 pm on Friday from the area of 40^th Street and Avenue E.

Officers responded to the area on a report of a male who had threatened two females with a knife.  According to the 45-and-38-year old female victims, as they exited their parked vehicle, they were approached by an unknown male, later identified as Williams Rivera.  He immediately began shouting obscenities at the victims for reasons unknown while threatening to stab them as he brandished a folding pocket knife.

As one victim began to phone the police, Captain Amato says Williams Rivera began to walk away as the victims followed him in order to point him out to police once they arrived.  Before police got to the scene, Williams Rivera again approached the 45-year old female victim and punched her in the face with a closed fist as he pushed her into a park bench, causing her to suffer a minor foot injury.

Upon hearing the sirens of responding police, the assailant fled.  Police officers were informed by several witnesses that Williams Rivera was running east on 42^nd Street toward Avenue E.  Officers gave chase and ordered Williams Rivera to stop running several times.  He refused to comply.  The police were then able to intercept him in the area of 40^th Street and Avenue E where he was positively identified as the actor.  The knife was also recovered.

During the arrest process, Williams Rivera initially provided false identification and was additionally charged.

• Obstructing a Governmental Function
• Resisting Arrest
• Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose
• Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
• Aggravated Assault
