BAYONNE, NJ – Andrew Fouad, a 25-year-old resident of East 25th Street, was taken into custody by officers after he allegedly struck a pedestrian with his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. The incident occurred in the area of 24th Street and Broadway, where the victim, a 20-year-old male, reported being hit by Fouad’s vehicle.
According to the victim, after being involved in a motor vehicle crash with Fouad, he attempted to stop Fouad from fleeing the scene. However, Fouad allegedly accelerated his vehicle, striking the victim and causing injuries to his right leg, fingers, head, neck, and chest.
Officers later spotted Fouad operating the suspect vehicle in the area of West 55th Street and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The ensuing investigation resulted in Fouad being positively identified as the driver responsible for the assault and taken into custody.
Fouad now faces charges of assault by auto and endangering an injured person. The victim is currently being treated for his injuries, which are reported to be serious.
The incident has shocked the Bayonne community, and residents are calling for justice for the victim. The police department has reminded drivers to be responsible and to follow the law to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
