Photo Credit: Bayonne OEM Earlier this week a massive fire on Broadway left many Bayonne families either temporarily homeless or without their apartments forever. As a result of the blaze, which affected a total of 24 individuals, Mayor Jimmy Davis is asking the public to open their hearts, if they are financially able, to help their neighbors.
He is asking the community to donate gift cards, any type and any amount, so the victims of the fire, many of whom lost all of their possessions, can purchase needed items for the immediate present.
Mayor Davis posted the following message on Facebook on Thursday night:
“Earlier this week, some of our neighbors were left homeless by a large and destructive fire on Broadway. Six families have lost all their possessions in addition to the roof over their heads.
At this time, I want to ask our community to step up to help our friends in need, as you do every time one of our own needs help. If you have the means, I’m asking that you purchase a gift card (any type/any denomination) so that we can help these families purchase items they will need to move forward. I am going to accept these gift cards at my office in City Hall and we will get them to these families right away.
Bayonne always steps up and I thank you all in advance for your generosity and compassion!”
