Bayonne Ordinance Would Ban Firearms in Public Buildings & Other Locations

The Bayonne City Council is poised to consider an ordinance to prohibit the carrying of firearms in public buildings, as well as in parks, schools and playgrounds.  The law would not apply to law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties.

The ordinance will be introduced next week at the August 17 meeting, with a public hearing scheduled for September 23.

Also at the August 17 Council meeting, the board is set to consider a change to its cannabis ordinance.  The change would remove a section of the city where retail cannabis sales could take place.

When the law was adopted earlier this year, it limited sales to the Route 440 corridor.  Because a small section of the corridor is residential, a revised ordinance will be introduced to remove that section from the Route 440 zoning and prevent cannabis sales there.
