A 42-year old woman was assaulted with a glass bottle on Sunday night at 9:08 at the corner of 34th Street and Avenue E. According to Captain Eric Amato, the victim was standing with her friend on the sidewalk, when another woman walked by and exchanged words with her.
Police say the attacker complained that the two women were blocking the sidewalk. The argument became physical, with the assailant striking the victim in the head with the bottle.
The victim suffered multiple lacerations to her face and head. The attacker then fled the scene. The victim was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.
In an unrelated incident in Bayonne, police say 44-year old Christopher M. Carter of Bidwell Avenue in Jersey City was arrested at 3:27 on Sunday afternoon for shoplifting $580 worth of seafood from Costco.
