At this week’s special Bayonne Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools John Niesz received a 5-year contract renewal. The new contract, which takes effect on July 1st, will keep Niesz in the Superintendent’s role through June 30, 2026.
Niesz has served as Superintendent since 2018, succeeding interim Superintendent Michael Wanko, who replaced former Superintendent Patricia McGeehan back in 2016 when the Board of Education decided not to renew her contract.
Niesz’s current contract pays him $230,458. The terms of Niesz’s new contract are as follows:
- 2021-2022 $230,501
- 2022-2023 $235,572
- 2023-2024 $240,183
- 2024-2025 $244,886
- 2025-2026 $249,683
The Superintendent thanked the Board for its faith and trust in him, saying the District still has a lot of work to do. Niesz served as Keansburg, New Jersey Superintendent of Schools prior to being hired in Bayonne.
