Bayonne Office on Aging to Offer Appointments to Help Pre-Screen Seniors for Medicare Programs
Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Bayonne Office On Aging will host its annual Medicare open enrollment pre-screening sessions. They will take place on select Tuesdays and Thursdays in September and October, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 630 Avenue C. City Hall is located on Avenue C between 27th and 28th Streets. Any Bayonne senior coming to any of the pre-screening sessions must make an appointment prior to arriving. All participants must wear masks and gloves, in order to comply with Coronavirus guidelines. They must also maintain social distancing during the appointments. They must sign a disclaimer. All participants must be prepared to complete business with all of the necessary documents and have the ability to communicate with someone independently.
The pre-screenings are designed to prepare Bayonne seniors for the open enrollment period for Medicare. That enrollment period starts on October 15 and runs through December 7, 2020, for coverage that takes effect on January 1, 2021. Mayor Davis said, “I would like to encourage our senior residents who need Medicare enrollment assistance to make an appointment to come to the City Council Chambers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 24 to October 13. Appointments will be available on each date between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.” Mayor Davis added, “These pre-screening sessions will provide a great opportunity for Medicare recipients to learn about a variety of healthcare choices.”
Medicare participants may come to only one appointment on one of the announced dates. The pre-screening sessions will give residents the opportunity to review their current Medicare coverage. At the appointment, people will have the chance to compare plan options. Those options include Part D prescription drug plans and lowering premium costs in 2021. Forum participants will also be able to find out information about PAAD and Senior Gold Discount Programs.
At each pre-screening session, the public will be able to receive one-on-one help from the Bayonne Office On Aging. Staff will be available to answer your questions.
