BEOF Offers Applications for Help With Paying Energy Bills

Samantha Howard, the Executive Director of the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF), announced that the BEOF continues to provide programs to help low-income residents of Hudson County pay their energy bills. Those programs include the Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the Universal Service Fund (USF), the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEA), and Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE).

Director Howard said, “As we emerge from the Coronavirus crisis and our economy reopens, the need for this service is going to be tremendous.”

The BEOF is asking Bayonne and other Hudson County residents who might qualify to please pick up an application either at the front door of the BEOF office located at 555 Kennedy Blvd, or you can go to www.beof.org and print out an application.

The funding for these energy assistance programs comes from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the federal government.  LIHEAP helps both home owners and tenants with low incomes.  USF and HEA have income limits that vary by household size.  That information is available from the BEOF.  Applicants will need to furnish photocopies of current bills from PSE&G and any oil and propane suppliers.  Home-owning applicants will need to provide copies of proof of ownership. Tenant applicants will need to provide a photocopy of their lease.  All applicants will need to provide proof of income, because the energy assistance programs are based on income. All applicants must have a Social Security card.  They must also complete a medical form that is stamped by a physician.

To submit a completed application, you can mail it to P.O. Box 1032, Bayonne NJ 07002, place it in a secured drop box located at the front door of the BEOF office on 555 Kennedy Blvd. 07002, fax it to 201-437-2220, or email it to information@beof.org.

Director Howard concluded, “Your applications will be processed immediately. Our staff will contact you with requests for more information needed for the qualifying process, so please help us help you by providing your name, phone number, and address as means of contacting you.”
